Nobody played Trump's inauguration but plenty of people released music on the same day.
Gorillaz - Hallelujah Money (Feat. Benjamin Clementine)
Gorillaz are back just in time to save our inauguration woes with a brand new track. It's a dark, haunting track for uncertain times led by the steady hand of Mercury Prize winner Benjamin Clementine.
Camp Cope - Footscray Station
Camp Cope, who are fast becoming the hardest working band in Oz, have dropped a new EP Cayetana off the back of their excellent self-titled LP. It features this pearler full of vivid imagery and a stirring narrative.
Maggie Rogers - On + Off
We inducted Maggie Rogers into our Future Class of 2017 this week which is excellent timing because she released this new pearler off a forthcoming EP. On + Off sees her successfully explore her pop sensibilities adding a little more dance to her folky backdrop.
Paces - Savage (Feat. NYNE)
Leave it up to Paces to save the summer. The consistent Aussie producer has dropped a new jam exploring his darker side with a little help from woozy, R&B vocalist NYNE. The result is a song that's probably going to dominate festival sets.
Middle Kids - Never Start
Middle Kids just casually dropped what will probably be one of the best songs of the year this week. It's taken from a forthcoming EP and makes it a spectacular three-from-three for the Aussie trio.
Arcade Fire - I Give You Power
Gorillaz weren't the only ones to time a surprise drop with the inauguration. The band dropped I Give You Power featuring the legendary Mavis Staples. It's a stirring anthem with a persistent groove because Arcade Fire have always protested while dancing.
