December is saving the best 'til last. Here are our faves this week from a huge crop of new releases.
Hodgy & Busta Rhymes - Final Hour
Odd Future's Hodgy Beats is finally gearing up to release his debut album Fireplace:TheNotTheOtherSide next week and this is a huge cut from it. It features Busta Rhymes and it takes a real swipe at Run The Jewels' crown for the fiercest rap track of the week.
Run The Jewels - Legend Has It
The kings. Through everything that happened this year, Run The Jewels always felt like one of the only sensible voices. RTJ3 is out next month and it's no doubt going to do a valiant job at giving their depiction of this world. Legend Has It by itself does a good job. It's a passionate, runaway hip-hop tune that centres around El-P and Killer Mike's comradare.
M-Phazes x Alison Wonderland - Messiah
M-Phazes came from the hip-hop world, Alison Wonderland came from the electronic world and they met somewhere in the middle at pop. They're both out of their comfort zone but that only makes it all the more exciting. It's a huge tune and one that could pose a serious threat to those who thought they had the Hottest 100 in the bag. *Hi Flume*
Kehlani - Advice
Kehlani will release her debut album SweetSexySavage and Advice is taken from that. She's always been an autobiographical songwriter but there's a poignancy with this one, coming off the back of everything she's been through this year. Still, she delivers it with positivity and hope and that's the takeaway with Advice.
Green Buzzard - Do You Ever Glow?
Green Buzzard's Eazy Queezy Squeezy showed that they had the melodic chops to be more than just another scuzzy rock band and their latest drop Do You Ever Glow? confirms that. It's a cleaner, more supremely produced effort that sees the band go for something more anthemic.
Childish Gambino - Boogieman
Have you heard the news? Childish Gambino has a new album out today and he doesn't rap. No rap Gambino equals funk Gambino in the world of Awaken, My Love! and for the most part he does a pretty good job. Boogieman is the peak of the record, haunting with a dark groove and some demonic vocals.
