Tomorrow, D.R.A.M., the US rapper/soul man behind viral hit Cha Cha (which turned into Hotline Bling) will release his debut album Big Baby D.R.A.M. It's a colourful, soulful and vivacious album that's likely to put a big fat smile on the face of every one of ya and a big part of that is its great lyrics. We've cherry-picked some of the best on the record for you so you can get a taste of what you're in for tomorrow.
"All I wanted was the fame and every game they made on Sega" - Broccoli
There's a real juxtaposition on the record between sleeze and cuteness. It's sometimes hard to get used to but when the cute moments hit, they're syper cute. This is one of them. While D.R.A.M. has the fame now, we doubt he did end up getting every game they made on Sega so maybe we should all send him our old Sega games so he can be totally fulfilled?
"I am a foodie / So you know I'll take you for a bite to eat because / I think you're cute" - Cute
You don't have to worry about one of those dates where all you get are cocktails and drinks. D.R.A.M. is a "foodie" so he's going to take you out for the full three course meal. Date Action Bronson or D.R.A.M. if you're in it for a good meal.
"Fucking with the camera man and still ain't get the picture" - Monticello Ave
This is just one of the many clever wordplays that he has on the album. For a soul man, he's actually got a really quick-witted tongue the likes of which would even compete with Kanye. If you're fucking a camerman and still can't get that perfect Insty shot, what are you doing?
"D.R.A.M.: Do you got WiFi? 'Cos I really wanna show you something but my phone is fucking up"
"Erykah Badu: Boy I got WiFi...let me know where your iPhone at to log on my WiFi" - WiFi
WiFi is the totally bonkers and brilliant duet between D.R.A.M. and soul queen Erykah Badu. It's a weird, woozy love song that's basically love based on how good your wifi connection is. Maybe if you went without data for a day and made it your mission to find someone's wifi you could use, you'd meet the love of your life. It worked for D.R.A.M., Erykah had that wifi he was lookin' for.
"Look in the mirror like you've got a lot of inner-wealth" - Change My #
One of the best things about D.R.A.M.'s music is it's all about self-worth. It's positive, upbeat and best worn with a huge smile which is why this line gives us the warm and fuzzies. Heaps of the record is about how D.R.A.M. started from the bottom now he's here and in many ways this lyric is a mantra for the whole album. "Inner-wealth" is a statement we needed printed on a t-shirt. It means you're expensive on the inside.
"Why did I leave my phone out that's a rookie mistake...I wish my password wasn't my name" - Password
DRAM is a weakass password. Even though there are some holes in this lyric because on iPhones you can only set numeric passwords, but even still - don't go setting your password as an four-letter word with no symbols or numbers. That's some unsafe shit that some website would not even accept. Rookie mistake, indeed.
"I used to get the coldest shoulders / Now I get the hottest ass" - Cash Machine
Cash Machine is his rags to riches anthem and this is one of the smartest lines from the song. It's taking a metaphor and comparing it to something literal, JIC you needed it explained. And now we're very sorry because we've ruined it for you with our logic.
And there's plenty more gold packed into the album but we thought we'd give you a lil' taster. Big Baby D.R.A.M. is out tomorrow.
