    Focus On The Local with Japanese Wallpaper

    It’s a new one from Japanese Wallpaper and he’s brought in the golden child with a mouth of brown, it’s Jesse Davidson ladies and gentlemen. Famous for juxtaposing a truly beautiful voice with truly uncomfortable stage banter and a truly bizarre social media presence, Jesse gets on this track and lays down some fairly poignant lyrics. It’s certainly a problematic state of affairs when there are simply too many women trying to transcend that friendzone and get in my tightly bound pants. That’s why I wear jeans with the elastic at the ankles too, prevents entry from either direction.

     



    Anyway, Jesse’s insane voice and dynamic lyricism aside, this is a Japanese Wallpaper track and though I’ve started with Jesse, it’s real name Gab Strum that’s the star of the show. He’s fresh from sundering his rivals in the Triple J Unearthed High competition and now releases the single that Triple J recorded for him, part of his prize for winning the thing. For something that he seemingly knocked together in the fortnight after his victory, it’s pretty on point. The sort of simple but gorgeous production we’ve come to expect from Jap Wall that allows the vocals to breathe just right.

     



    His first single ‘Breathe In’ landed him a spot on the soundtrack to Zach Braff’s new film Wish I Was Here as well as the attention of Gotye, Chet Faker and our favourite fella The Kite String Tangle but I think it’s this single that’s going to push him into the next bracket of success.

    Obviously Chloe Grace Moretz loves it and wasn’t afraid to let her 1.18 million Twitter followers know the dealio.

     



    In other news, ‘Breathe In’ collaborator Wafia has just released her own Hype Machine topping single ‘Let Me Love You’, a cover of Mario’s R&B jammie from a few years back. Kids these days, they’re barely out of diapers before they’re conquering hype machine. When I was younger I had to walk 6 miles in the snow every day just to read the Hype Machine billboards in the middle of town, that’s how we found out how things went viral. It’s certainly a different time.
