Kanye West Fans Streamed 'Hey Mama' Heaps On Friday The Same Day Taylor Swift Released 'Reputation'

Friday was the ten year anniversary of the death of Kanye West's Mother Donda West and it also happened to be the release day of Taylor Swift's Kanye-dissing album Reputation.

Originally it was speculated that Swift aligned the dates on purpose but that rumour subsided pretty quickly. Still, it didn't stop people from streaming West's Hey Mama partly to keep Swift off the top of the charts and partly to pay respect to Donda.

Swift's Reputation wasn't on streaming services so the streams are incomparable but Kanye's was streamed about 700,000 times, as XXL report.

The song also reached the top 100 on iTunes both here and in New Zealand.

It was all organised by 16-year-old fan Rhys Halkidis who encouraged Yeezy fans to stream the song on repeat for 12 hours. He's already planning another one for next year that will run over two days.
