NOTE: Tommy here from Australian music blog Sound Doctrine. I'll be taking over Cool Accidents for the next week so expect to see a dramatic rise in the quality of content and crass innuendo. Over on Sound Doctrine I focus exclusively on Australian music so I'll be bringing you some choice cuts from domestic juggernauts and local unknowns. Bring an open mind and an unsecured credit card and we'll get on great.

So I woke up this morning to a frankly overwhleming number of new releases. Records from artists I love and those I love less and a few that we've been waiting a while for, it was hard to know where to start so in the interest of streamlining your music consumption for the next week, here's everyting you need to know about.

James Blake - The Colour In Anything [Listen on Spotify]

Yep, there's a new James Blake record coming. We knew it was on it's way because he's been lobbing singles like grenades over a parapet, obviously unaware of the impact as he similar deploys an album to level our hearts. It's every bit as gorgeous as his past two records. There's plenty to discuss with songwriting help from Frank Ocean, production help from Rick Rubin, a guest vocal from Bon Iver and rumours of a Kanye collaboration that obviously never eventuated but you're better off just listening to the damn thing. My favourite moments are the less produced sections where he sits at his piano and just hollers out, much like he did on that Joni Mitchell cover a few years back.

Anohni - HOPELESSNESS [Listen on Spotify]

This has been my most anticipated record of the year after 4 Degrees tore my guts out with a combination of visceral production, brutal conceptuality in its hyper-agressive global warming ideaologies and expectedly soaring vocals. I should probably mention, in case you haven't yet clocked this project, it's a collaborative record between Antony of Antony And The Johnsons and Hudson Mohawk. It's politically charged (listen to 'Obama' and see if it doesn't make you at least a little bit uncomfortable) but he works hard to veil some of his more political ideas in the clothing of other narratives. On Watch Me, he combines homoerotic daddy fantasies with a global surveillance discourse and I'll be damned if it isn't clever as hell.

Kaytranada - 99.9% [Listen on Spotify]

Kaytra has been teasing out singles over the last few months and has featured (as a producer) on a bunch of different hype-worthy tracks amongst his own releases so he's worked hard to stay front and center in our collective awareness. Today is the day that all that hype and buzz either leads to extreme acclaim or mild dissapointment and after my first listen through it feels like more the first than the second. There are a few songs that feel like a mashing together of zeitgeisty names (Together feat. AlunaGeorge and Goldlink is a bit of a nothing track) but then there are tracks like lead single Bus Ride that come out of the ether to bowl you over. The features are as good as you'd expect across the board. Sydn, Vic Mensa, Anderson Paak, BBNG are amongst them and Craig David appears on the record which I believe is his 91st feature vocal in 2016 so far. The tracks like Lite Spots or Despite The Weather that were less reliant on features for glossy finish stood out on the record and showed what I think we all need to remember: Kaytra is one of the best producers in the game right now, with our without a smorgasboard of big names next to his own.

Ry X - Dawn [Listen on Spotify]

One for those that grew up in folk but have since found themselves in new territory these last few years. Ry X (an Australian expat now living in the US) has the sort of gorgeous voice that characterised plenty of nu-folk records around 2010 and the instrumentation is somewhere between The Cinematic Orchestra and James Blake. It's all quite lovely and worth a solid listen through if you miss Bon Iver, James Vincent McMorrow et al, particularly the song 'Berlin' which has been a huge single for at least a few years now. The record has been a long time coming, that's for sure.

Skepta - Konnichiwa [Listen on Spotify]

This record is going to get a select few Australians jazzed but you it's going to be a tiny spark before the forest fire that is the reception of this release in his home UK. If you're not at least aware of his maximum energy single 'Shutdown' from this record then you've already missed the boat but this record is worth a listen if only so you can get a grip on what's going on in the bigger budget end of the Grime world overseas.

White Lung - Paradise [Listen on Spotify]

I had to get some guitars in here somewhere and Canada's White Lung were happy to oblige. There are honestly too many influences on this record for me to reasonably address so draw yourself up a bingo sheet and make a morning of it why don't you. Children Of Bodom synth sounds for maximum points.

Tourist - U [Listen on Spotify]

Londoner Tourist has finally arrived with a debut record that is a must listen for any laptop officionados wonder where the game is headed. Y'all need to take a few notes because this is rife with clever ideas and clever execution which is the holy binary of electronic music.
