Every Christmas my Dad would say, “now this year we are going to have a cheap Christmas because I’m saving for us all to go on a holiday.” Bless him for trying, but we never actually went on any holidays. The worst year was when we gave me a book on Irish history that was just off his shelf, he just took it off the shelf and handed it to me. I guess it was kind of like a holiday because (if I ever read it) I would have learned about another country.
We love that for Kim Churchill, getting a crap present actually ends up becoming quite handy in that he has something to wipe away those ‘I got crap presents’ tears.
Our style of Christmas presents growing up was a stocking from Santa in the early mornings full of little things and a larger present at lunch time. As I grew older, harder to buy for and less interested in lots and lots of presents mum began to struggle and often looked around the house for last minute things to wrap up and fill my stocking with.. Last year I got, among other things, an apple and a box of tissues.
