10 Things We Want To See In 2018

    A New Vampire Weekend Album

Ezra Koenig has been teasing a new Vampire Weekend record for a while now. This year, he revealed that it was 80 per cent finished but conceded that the final 20 per cent is always the hardest part. That said, he reckons that he’s going to be done with it in 2018, five years after the release of Modern Vampires Of The City. It will be the first album since Rostam left the band but apparently he’s still been involved in the process.

    The New “Poppier” CHVRCHES Record

CHVRCHES released Every Open Eye back in 2015 and after touring it extensively have gone to hideaway in the studio to work on album number three. This time around they’ve been working on it with Greg Kurstin who is best known for his work with Sia and Adele. It’s said to be a “poppier” record to the first two but CHURCHES style is so strong, it’s hard to imagine them deviating too far from the winning formula.

    Frank Ocean To Tour Australia

After a few cancellations, Frank Ocean finally started playing festivals in 2017 and by all reports they were great. We’re still waiting on him to return to Australia and make up for cancelling Splendour In The Grass back in 2012. Yep, we hold grudges.

Charli XCX To Release Another Mixtape

We know we’re greedy given that we got two in 2017 but we reckon Charli XCX has even more gold left in here. She’s one of the fastest writers in pop music and also one of the best at finding the right people the collaborate with. Pop 2 was some of her finest work yet and we’d love to see her continue down that path.

A New Rihanna Album, Or At Least A Single

Once upon a time we got a new Rihanna album every year but she’s slowed down since then. Her last record was 2016’s ANTI and while she had a great 2017 featuring on songs with DJ Khaled and Kendrick Lamar, we’d love to see her step away from Fenty Beauty for a sec and drop a new solo single.

    Some New Foals Music

Foals have been hard at work on the follow-up to their 2015 record Holy Fire. Frontman Yannis has been keeping us updated and the band have been posting photos from inside the studio. In 2018, it will have been three years since their last record so we’d be surprised if we don’t get something next year.

    Cardi B’s Debut Album

Cardi’s just dropped her Bodak Yellow follow-up Bartier Cardi and now we want to see the debut album. She’s said that she’s going to take it slow but we’d love to see her capitalise on this heat and drop an album. And the features? We’d like to see Offset (of course), Kehlani, SZA and maybe another Nicki Minaj collab.

Kendrick Lamar To Tour ‘DAMN.’ Here

Kendrick Lamar’s 2016 Australian tour was one of the most impressive we’ve seen in a long time and with many calling DAMN. one of the best records of the year, we need to see him tour it downunder. Everything from his Coachella headlining set to his MTV VMAs performance has been spectacular so we can only imagine what he has in store for a headline tour. C’mon K. Dot.

Tyler The Creator To Be Allowed Back Into The Country

Tyler The Creator has attempted to tour here in the past but has been banned because of past homophobic and violent lyrics. This years, Flower Boy proves that Tyler has done plenty of growing up. It’s his most cohesive, intelligent and mature project to date and we’d hate for him to be consistently judged for things he said when he was a teenager.

    Kanye To Return

2017 has been relatively quiet for Kanye, recovering from his late 2016 breakdown. There have been plenty of pictures floating around of him in the studio with everyone from Migos to Kid Cudi so we reckon he definitely has something up his sleeve for 2018. Kanye never goes quiet for a long period without returning with a bang (see My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) so expect something big.
