It’s not the kind of partnership you’d ever expect to work, a ginger soloist (with a penchant for the intimate) hooking up with a drum and bass quartet, known for their festival blazing sounds. Yet every time we’ve seen Ed Sheeran and Rudimental throw down together it has always felt like it was just meant to be! Here we present our top 5 Ed Sheeran X Rudimental moments.
5. Bloodstream.
This Rick Rubin produced ballad/banger (Ballanger?) appears at the half way point of Ed’s 2014 album X and comes fully loaded with ALL the feels. Ed himself as said it’s a song inspired by a time he felt anxiety, love, warmth and a bit weird all at once, so it’s got every base covered. Also there’s no harm in Ray Liotta starring in the official music video either.
4. Glastonbury.
To back up the release of Bloodstream, Ed made a surprise live appearance at Glastonbury in June 2014. Introduced on stage by Amir as Rudimental’s “Brother From Another Mother”, Sheeran got an enormous welcome from the shocked crowd. The natural and hypnotic chemistry between Rudimental and Ed was on full display and by all accounts this was a festival defining moment.
3. Ibiza.
Another unexpected live appearance, this time at the legendary party venue Ibiza Rocks. Ed took the stage sans guitar which allowed him to work the crowd with Rudimental’s DJ Locksmith. From the photo and video evidence, this part of the bands set sent everyone into full tilt rage-mode. The award for person(s) having the best time clearly went to Ed and DJ Locksmith though, feeding off the crowd's energy and throwing it back ten-fold.
2. Australian Tour.
Although this one is still yet to take place, we’re bringing it in at number two because it’s going to be just that epic. Sheeran is touring stadiums in Australia, yes you read that right, STADIUMS! Along for the ride is Rudimental, who Ed has hand selected to set the stadium crowds ablaze before he comes out to scorch them even further. Even Kochie is stoked for it… even though he might be a little confused on how many members there are in the group!
1. Lay It All On Me
This. Track. Is. Fire. Set to appear on the upcoming Rudimental album, the band scooped up Sheeran to record vocals and then went on to explain “It's a song about sticking together, really -- about brotherhood.” With a such a strong bromance at play between these heavy hitters we have our suspicions that there was some serious Fifa and Pizza partying going down in those recording sessions.
Rudimental's We The Generation drops this Friday where all BANGING sophomore records are sold | streamed and Ed's album that just won't stop selling - X can be bought (as if you don't already have it) and streamed too.
