The latest entry in the brilliant Rough Trade Stores compilation series (home of the excellent annual CounterCulture selections) is 40 Years 40 Covers.
Celebrating 40 years of Rough Trade here are 40 unlikely but interesting cover versions the boys at the shop have dusted off for us. They vary from the unlikely artist combination (Springsteen covers Suicide) to the unlikely cover (The Meat Purveyors present Madonna’s Like A Virgin); the obscure (Royal Trux do Dire Straits) to the straight up but none less great hit (Bjork does Betty Hutton). And some are just perfect – step up the White Stripes play Dolly Parton!
You can check out the excellent tracklist all curated and dusted off by the incredible music brains of the Rough Trade crew HERE.
And whilst you decide whether or not to purchase take a listen to this rather lovely take on Womack & Womack's Teardrops by The XX and get the idea, which isn’t miles away from Like A Version...
We are just a little upset our favourites by Aztec Camera (covering Van Halen) and Tori Amos (covering Nirvana) didn’t make it...
but isn't that all part of the fun?
