No doubt you’re already familiar with a very talented young, Melbourne producer named Japanese Wallpaper whose songs have graced the waves of our national broadcaster time and time again. He’s recently branched out on his new song ‘Cocoon’ with the inclusion of his own vocals and the results are telling. It’s a pretty hard record to place, breaking genres as easily as hearts with some pretty finely chosen chords and delightfully layered vocals and a fine step forward at an early point in an artists career where a direction shift can often be terrifying.
This is all misdirection however as what we’re actually hear to discuss/listen to is this incredibly special remix of JW’s last single ‘Forces’. The work of Swedish producer Grynpyret (whose name you can learn how to pronounce here), the track has dispensed with every element of production, retaining only Airling’s original vocal. He’s raised the tempo and pitch across the track, even reshaping the pitch so as to created slightly new melodies at points. Where once sat JW’s calm, emotional chords, there can be heard the exuberant, bright new counter-melodies that make for an insanely fun listen.
Grynpyret is a self-described ‘bird on the internet making music’ and completed this remix by request for the deluxe edition of Japanese Wallpaper’s debut EP which was released a few months back. You can hear the whole thing on Spotify now.
PS you can catch Japanese Wallpaper on tour in August, hit up his website for all the details!
