Central Coast musician BOY SODA has just dropped his sweet-as-sugar new single, LOVEU2BITS, and it's a track that you'll want to share with that someone special. It's catchy as all hell, and BOY SODA is feeling at peace with the world.
He's released the track with a music video directed by Bailey Watts, and it is simultaneously sweet and tragic. The video follows BOY SODA as he looks around him, seeing the relationships in his world turn sour. Despite this, he's looking for someone to love.
BOY SODA's made a name for himself both locally and overseas, heading to the US in 2019 to open for Dominic Fike. Since then, he's been turning heads in the Sydney hip-hop/R&B scenes, releasing a string of singles that make you want to dance, as well as resonate on an emotional level.
Speaking about the video, BOY SODA says, “Bailey and I wanted to create a video that revolved around the irony of singing a love song and being the loneliest character in the video.
"As the plot unfolds, we see different relationships start to turn sour, but I’m still in the background thinking ‘damn even if I did I have something to argue about, I got no one to argue about it with’”
“It toes the line between sweet and tragic and Bai and I always make an effort of fleshing out binaries like that - it’s why we made a point to colour-blocking every scene so that we get this
To celebrate the video's release, we've got some exclusive BTS snaps of the filming of the music video, thanks to photographer Dexter Lola. The photos capture the beauty of the video, as well as the fun of being on a music set.
BOY SODA worked with Naarm/Melbourne producers Hugh Lake and James Hamley to add the final pieces to the track, and they helped to create the romanticism that underpins the track. You can hear just how in love BOY SODA is through his vocals, and the video elevates this feeling.
