Designer Ricky Regal has recently collaborated with French fashion label, Lacoste, for his first collection of velvet, silk and cotton-classy '70s influenced streetwear. And if you don't recognise the name, that's because it's multiple Grammy-winner, Bruno Mars' alter-ego.
Announced in line with his new collaborative project with Anderson .Paak, Silk Sonic, the 24K Magic man himself tells Vogue that fashion brands have been banging on his door to collaborate for years. However, Lacoste Creative Director Louise Trotter was able to cut a deal saying Mars could design whatever he wanted.
Titled Lacoste x Ricky Regal, the clothes showcase what Mars believes to be a more elevated version of himself. “I wanted it to feel like, whoever that person is wearing it, they’re the coolest guy at the party. They’re not trying too hard. It just flows and feels right,” says Mars.
The capsule collection depicts both Mars and his friend/singer-songwriter Anderson .Paak in the ‘70s-inspired apparel with the likes of aviator sunglasses, velour tracksuits and more. After the recent band announcement of Mars and .Paak creating Silk Sonic, it's no surprise that .Paak would be up for modelling the designer collection too.
The ultimate goal for Mars? For people to experience life as Ricky Regal — like they’re “levitating when they walk into someplace — a grocery store or a party”.
The line will drop next week, but the first Silk Sonic song will drop this Friday and we can't freakin' wait. We'll have our matching tracksuits on.
