Charli XCX's music has always been ahead of the curve, and that's helped her build a fanbase that hangs off her every word. Her latest single, Good Ones, is a departure from hyperpop and veers towards more traditional pop elements, but it's just as catchy as the other tracks in her discography.

Her music also features lyrics that often provide life advice, which is the case on Good Ones. The track talks about how Charli's prone to chasing the bad relationships in her life, and letting the good ones disintegrate, something which is definitely relatable for a lot of people.

To celebrate the release of Good Ones, we've taken a look at different tracks of Charli's, and the nuggets of wisdom they hold. Sometimes, music is a great place to turn to when you're looking for guidance, and Charli's music is no exception.

    Forever

Featuring on Charli's 2020 album how i'm feeling now, Forever speaks about long-distance relationships, and the struggles that they can throw up. It's a reminder to both herself and her fans that while long-distance love can be hard, it's worth pushing through if the person means a lot to you.

Lyrics like "You take your time, I'll take mine, we'll be fine/Knew I'd be here, be here, be here with you" will resonate with anyone that's been in a long-term relationship for any period of time, especially throughout 2020 and 2021. There's a light at the end of the tunnel - people just have to keep pushing.

    Click

Charli XCX must have a crystal ball, because on her 2019 track Click, she predicted how the next two years would go for workers across the world. In her first verse, she sings, "I'm zoomin' my way 'round the globe (Zoom)", which is the experience of many people, with Zoom becoming a staple of the pandemic.

She then goes on to sing "I'm so 20/20 with my vision/20/20 with precision, I'm so legit", further confirming that she's got the ability to look into the future and see what the world will be like after she releases a track, so we're looking forward to further predictions.

    5 in the Morning

Released in 2018, 5 in the Morning is a how-to guide on how to impress people when you step into a party. Charli sings, "It's 5 in the mornin'/And I'm goin' all in, I'm busy ballin'/Funny how wherever I wanna go/You wanna be there too", exuding a level of self-confidence that her fans can't help but want to emulate.

It's an R&B-flavoured track about how when you go out, you've got to let yourself go, and live life to the fullest. Charli wants her fans to live their best lives, and with tracks like 5 in the Morning as your soundtrack, it's hard not to get swept up in her energy.

    Unlock It (Lock It)

If you're someone that struggles with what to do when you come to a locked/unlocked door, then Charli XCX has you covered. On the hook for her track Unlock It (Lock It), Charli sings, "Lock it, lock it, lock-lock it/Lock it, lock it, unlock it/Lock it, lock it, lock-lock it/Got the key, can you unlock it?", which is valuable for anyone that's not quite sure what a key is for.

It's a track that featured on Pop 2, which showcased the pop sounds of the future. Jay Park and Kim Petras both feature on the track, with Charli presumably also educating them on proper door technique, so they could share it with their fans as well, which is a win-win for everyone involved.

    Dreamer

The intro track on Charli's mixtape Number 1 Angel, Dreamer is a self-confidence anthem designed to inspire anyone that listens to it to believe in themselves, no matter what's in front of you. We all get in our own heads from time to time, but Charli's music is a reminder that a lot of the obstacles in front of us are mental, and chasing your dreams is what you're meant to do.

Speaking about the track, Charli says, "This song is just like us all kind of like flexing, and being badass. And they do it so well and I was so happy that they said yes to do this song, cos it’s so sick!" Get out there and take on the world.

    Break The Rules

Sometimes, rules are meant to be broken, especially if you're trying to find your true self. Charli XCX knows all about this, given how her music career has evolved to date, and 2014 track Break The Rules is a reminder that you can't always exist in the boxes society provides for you, but instead, you've got to explore the world.

It's a bit of a party anthem, as well as a track that embraces the punk spirit. If you're someone that never quite liked school, or just someone that's looking to release the shackles a little bit, then put on Break The Rules and let your spirit run free.

    White Mercedes

White Mercedes is, to this day, one of Charli's most poignant tracks. It's a song about hurting the people that you love most because of destructive behaviours and being unable to break the cycle. Charli sings, "Like a white Mercedes, always been running too fast/When your heart is breaking, you keep on taking me back" and it's a painful reminder that no-one exists in a vacuum, but instead, our actions will always have consequences.

Later on in the song, Charli talks about wanting to be good enough for her partner, explaining, "One day I'll pull through and I'll be good enough". If there's someone out there that you want to change for, then there's never been a better time to take the first step. Sometimes, that's the hardest part.
