Choc Top Of The Pops - Part One

  • Choc Top Of The Pops - Part One
    POSTED

Every now and then on Tuesday nights at the Cricketers Arms I play records with my good friend James under the name ‘Mum & Dad’ . The idea is that we play vinyl that we’ve inherited from our parents collections and vinyl that we’ve found at record fairs (i.e. inherited from strangers collections).  It’s usually an amazing mix of all things Fleetwood Mac, ELO, Spandau Ballet, Paul Simon, Roy Orbison, 60s, 70s & 80s compilation sets plus numbers from the Dirty Dancing, Grease and Flashdance soundtracks.

Soundtracks are a staple in any ‘Mum & Dad’ DJ set and once we’ve collected enough top notch OSTs we’ll have a night devoted solely to the music in movies. Until then…it’s only right that I share a selection of the most excellent tunes from movies.

There’s too much goodness for one post…so it’s coming at you in three parts.

PART ONE: SOMETHING 60s, 70s AND EARLY 80s

The GraduateThe Graduate (1967) Simon & Garfunkel - Mrs Robinson

GreaseGrease (1978) Frankie Avalon - Beauty School Drop Out

The Big ChillThe Big Chill (1983) Smokey Robinson - Tracks Of My Tears

** This whole soundtrack is something else. It was so hard to just pick a single song. If you’re not across it then make sure you get it in your ears ASAP**

FlashdanceFlashdance (1983) Michael Sembello - Maniac

Purple RainPurple Rain (1984) Prince - Purple Rain

Stay tuned for parts II & III!
