    CSOKE

Sydney artist Csöke (pronounced like shock and jock together with the 'sh' how you'd pronounce the 'je' in 'je m'appelle') is about to drop her new EP F.W.M. and man, do we have a mammoth preview of the project for you. Not only are we premiering the EP's lead track F.W.M. (which stands for 'fuck with myself') today, we're premiering the entire EP along with a track-by-track written by Csöke herself ahead of its release tomorrow.

The young upstart has a super smooth neo-soul/R&B-influenced voice, inspired by the rock and jazz her parents listened to when she was young. The EP takes in an impressively wide expanse of '80s and '90s pop and alt-R&B inspirations though, packaged up in really sleek production calling to mind the likes of SZA. Figure It Out even utilises a vibrant trop-house beat.

Csöke explains the EP is about "self-affirmation and owning yourself. For anyone listening I want them to feel empowered through my music". It's an inspiring concept, because Csöke has struggled with everything from bowel disease to PTSD over the years, emerging triumphant by turning to music.

"I pushed myself to write about things that made me feel free and powerful that hopefully I'd believe it one day. I'm hoping anyone that is happy to listen, that may be going through something in their life knows they're not alone. I want my music to be a pit stop for them to breathe, to be a safe place where they can feel good and have some fun with me."

Check out her EP and track-by-track below.

    #1

#1 is the first track I ever released under ‘csöke’ on SoundCloud on valentines day of 2019. I was single when it was released and on a verge of a breakup/breakdown when it was written (haha). It really shows a side of me that I don’t express very often and I wanted people to hear that side of me.

It’s funny that over time, this song now has a proper meaning that I can relate to it myself. It’s simply about telling someone how awesome they are and how they light up your life completely. They are the best thing since fidget spinners.

    Priority

Priority was written while I was alone in America, still dating somebody I didn’t want to be with and didn’t know how to express how I felt about that person at the time.

I felt like I had no power and this person had too much claim and say over my life when I felt they didn’t know who I was anymore. It’s about being completely over the absolute crap that would come out of their mouth and telling them to shut up and finally standing up for myself; claiming that I am and anyone singing that we are priority.

    Figure It Out

I’m a person who likes to meticulously plan and overthink everything. When it comes to writing, the dating world and everything else in my life. With Figure It Out; I decided to let myself go, shut off my brain and write purely based on raw, unfiltered emotions and allow myself to say what I wanted without the fear of being judged. This song is about my desire to take charge and deciding to be control of an intimate situation. I don’t feel the need to justify the decisions I make to anyone but me. I want this to be an example that there’s no wrong way to be a woman. We can still be society's standard of ‘classy’ but still have desires, want to get freaky and sing about them.

    Talk To Me ft Tbi$h

This song is about the delusion that someone thinks they own me and I’m their baby without even trying to have me. A reminder to anyone listening that that they’re a badass bitch and no one can just think they have you. If you want me you have to talk to me.

    All Day

The closing track on the EP, I wanted this at the end because it gives a different side of a possible new chapter in my life and where the music may take me lyrically. After claiming back my power and feeling like I'm complete as a person I’m opening up the possibility of love. This track is about finding someone worthy of my time, who can keep up with me, they treat me perfect and have gotten me completely. It’s an “Oh damn, I'm actually falling for this person” song.
