Cut Copy On Cassette

We haven’t been interested in a Cut Copy record for a long time. In fact, back to when they were still “records”.

But now there’s a new 'ambient project' that we do like:

The ambient instrumental January Tape is out now to stream, originally available only on cassette (of all things). The cassette itself is limited edition with the band releasing only 400 copies via Cutter's Records; although, according to lead singer Dan Whitford, you "may see a copy or two floating around in the wild".

Because Cut Copy are super cool (well, cooler than us anyway), this music is their homage to New Age music. Which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but we find amusing and interesting all at once.

So much so that we wrote about it

Being Cut Copy, they have a great story about it being related to a treasure trove of Windham Hill cassettes they found on Council Pick Up Day (an Aussie tradition when people empty their garage full of broken furniture and old kids toys onto the kerb and you can take what you want).

It’s a good story and as good a reason as any to make music.

But another reason is that it's good. And January Tape definitely is.
