There’s A LOT of hype around Daft Punk at the moment and rightfully so, with audio teasers, album announcements and possible tour dates (Coachella anyone?) floating around the internet, people are frothing at the bit in excitement which makes me think they’ve obviously forgotten about the pretty ordinary TRON: Legacy OST…
BUT given the strength and damn right funky* disco flavour of the teasers not to mention the fact they’ve reportedly collaborated with Nile Rodgers of Chic fame on the new record I’m pretty confident we’re in for something pretty damn special.
Being that the two 15 second trailers are hardly enough to keep us occupied until the album or at least a full track drops (unless you’re OK with listening to THIS forever) it’s just as well someone has done some serious homework in putting this 2 hour mix below together to keep us occupied.
Titled ‘Teachers’ it’s a brilliant mix that features tracks that helped inspire/influence/shape Daft Punk’s now classic 1997 debut Homework. It features 88 tracks from across 2 decades (77-97) and takes in house and techno from New York, Detroit, Paris, London and Chicago. The mix also features tracks from George Clinton, George Duke, Giorgio Moroder, Kraftwerk, Prince and even has a 1983 electronic obscurity produced by Daniel Vangarde, father of Thomas Bangalter.
Random Access Memories is expected to see a release on May 21 and is already up for pre-order on iTunes. Fingers crossed it’s a return to form.
*i know, i hate that word too.
