Bettye LaVette is back next month with a new album Thankful n’ Thoughtful which helps celebrate her 50 years in the music game. The album sees Bettye putting her twist on ‘emotional’ songs by artists such as - The Black Keys, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Gnarls Barkley, The Pogues and Sly & The Family Stone.

The first single, Bettye’s take on The Black Keys’ I’m Not The One is the first taste of the record and here’s what she had to say regarding the tune -



“I was so surprised to find out who the writers were of this song, ‘cause it sounded like some evil black chick wrote it. I don’t know what he meant, but I meant don’t fuck with me.”

Thankful n’ Thoughtful will be out in Australia on Sept 28 on Anti- Records
