Aussie band Hiatus Kaiyote are no strangers to international acclaim. They've been nominated for Grammys and Anderson .Paak sampled them on his track Without You.
Now, Drake is the latest to join the Hiatus Kaiyote appreciation party sampling them on More Life opener Free Smoke. Yep, that's Hiatus Kaiyote crooning at the top end of the record.
He sampled Choose Your Weapon closer Build A Ladder on the track after playing it in his pre-performance playlist during his recent UK tour.
It's not just a chance sample either. He's a big fan of the band according to lead singer Nai Palm.
"He’s been a fan of our shit for a while. It’s kind of beautiful," Nai told Billboard.
The band was informed of the sample early on with Drake's people playing Free Smoke to them during a conference call. They weren't sent the song, due to fears of a leak, only played it over the call and Nai said, "The first time I heard it, the audio quality was pretty rough."
It seems the respect between the two is mutual with Nai raving about Drizzy.
"Even though he's mainstream, he’s referencing real sh--, and he’s really clever about it. He seems like a really genuine, rad person who still has a good head on his shoulders," she said.
