Despite her young age, it almost feels like E^ST's Mel Bester has lived a lifetime. Her lyrics are honest and poignant without being overly sappy and if the reception at her recent Panic! At The Disco support slot was any indication, an entire arena of people definitely vibed her tunes.

Her new EP Life Ain't Always Roses drops today - and her headline tour is kicking off in a few weeks - so we thought we'd take a look at some of E^ST's finest lyrics.

"You seem happy / Guess that I am too / But I can't forget about you" - Life Goes On

One of her earlier songs, this line is one of those lyrics that strikes home for anyone who's become too invested in a person, with the relationship even ending before it began. There's a bunch of great lines in Life Goes On - who could forget the opening "Momentary / Temporary, transient / Impermanent"? 

"I’m at the club and I feel like I'm on Mars / I'm tryna dance but it's like I got sixteen arms" - Alien

If you're not really one of those out-every-night-partying type of people, this one touches perfectly on the displaced feeling you get when you're in a crowded room full of people, music throbbing, watching everyone have the time of their life, but still feel so totally out of place you may as well be on another planet. 

"I could've been anyone, I happened to be around / I'm just anyone, and you couldn't keep it down" - Blowjob 

Being used is something we've all experienced and this song's NSFW song title aside, Blowjob is about (in E^ST's words) "how we use each other in our own ways, and how that can leave us feeling isolated and alone even while we’re with someone... It’s about going after what we want in all the wrong ways". 

"Life ain't always roses but, even when the road gets rough / you'll never have to face too much, alone" - Friends

Giving E^ST's EP its name, this song is probably the most wholesome song on the album, all about the importance of being there for your buds. In this instance, Mel wrote this about her sister who is her "bff". 

"I'd rather dream 'bout all the things we'd see / Then have you see me / Yeah, I'd rather dream 'bout all the things we'd do / Then have you do me" - I Don't Lack Imagination 

Ooh, savage. Unlike Life Goes On, E^ST is strong and knows her self-worth on I Don't Lack Imagination, recognising she's wasting her damn time on that schmuck. Some things are better left in the mind at a distance!
