Ed Sheeran is a big fan of Rihanna - so much so, that when he's writing music, he's thinking about Rihanna and how she'd approach the song. He's a big fan of her versatility and aims to emulate that in his own songwriting.
Speaking to The Breakfast Club, Ed shared that "Rihanna is always the benchmark. Rihanna is always—when I go in, that's how Shape Of You was created, Love Yourself with Justin Bieber was created."
He went on to explain that there's a simple phrase that he uses whenever he's in the studio. Ed says, "Rihanna is such a, she's got such great taste in songs that a certain—you can't say what Rihanna's style is.
"It's just good tunes. So, when you go in the studio to create a song, always we go, what would Rihanna do? [She's someone] I would always, always love to work with and write with or for."
Ed revealed that he's shared songs with Rihanna in the past, but it's never been quite the right fit for the pair. However, he's not going to stop trying.
