Sometimes you need a near-death experience to reset how you look at the world, and after blacking out in the ocean in the dead of night, Elli Schoen awoke on New Year's Day with a new lease of life.
Her new video for Baby Face shows off this gratefulness for life, as she wreaks havoc around Fremantle, WA with her girl gang with no care in the world. They're at a roller rink, exploring abandoned buildings, skateboarding and drinking up a storm at a bar with the knowledge that tomorrow is not a guarantee.
"We wanted to create lots of little videos on different cameras to recreate my youth in Fremantle, running around and just being silly with my best mates. All the girls in videos are my friends which I feel makes it feel very authentic," Elli explains to Cool Accidents.
"I love VHS vibes, it feels very nostalgic. This song has that coastline California vibe and I think we captured that with using archive footage and bright colours.
"When I watch the video I literally feel like it’s watching a home video with me and my girls and that’s exactly what we were going for. I can’t wait to watch it when I’m a old lady and think, 'wow look at that baby face'."
Bringing to mind the sounds of Best Coast or HAIM, Elli Schoen has created a genuinely vibrant summer anthem that we can imagine turning up on our stereo on our next coastal road trip.
