Zendaya and Labrinth in Euphoria Season 2

Euphoria is the latest TV show to take the world by storm. After the exhilarating season two finale, HBO announced the teen drama is the network’s most watched show behind global behemoth Game Of Thrones. And with good reason.

Along with some incredible performances (Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney to name two), visually stunning cinematography, and some inspired direction, it’s the incredible music heard throughout the series that helps elevate Euphoria to that next level of essential viewing.

English singer, songwriter and producer Labrinth (the guy behind 2012 hit Beneath Your Beautiful) crafts the incredible score and musical numbers, while music supervisor Jen Malone is responsible for the diverse mix of music featured during the series.

To celebrate the show's championing of great tunes, here are the best musical moments from the second season of Euphoria. Warning: spoilers ahead.

Hit ‘Em Up – Tupac Shakur (Episode 1)

One of the hardest diss tracks in hip-hop history gets the Zendaya treatment when her character Rue, high as a kite, raps along to the song while driving to a drug deal with Fezco and Ashtray. What starts off as a funny scene gets serious when Ash loads his gun and Fez tells Rue to chill out as they “need to handle some serious business.” When they arrive at the deal you understand why they are so serious.

Right Down the Line - Gerry Rafferty (Episode 1)

Along with featuring in the first episode, Right Down The Line also soundtracks the season two trailer. The song comes on the radio when drug king pin and possible sex trafficker Laurie has her henchmen force Fez, Ash, Rue, Custer and Faye to strip naked to prove they aren’t cops. Gerry Rafferty’s feel good adult contemporary hit gives the chilling scene a sense of levity as one of the drug dealers dances along menacingly to the tune.

Haunted – Laura Les (Episode 2)

This thumping electronic number plays as Lexi puts on her headphones and rides to the store to see her crush Fezco. It offers a glimpse into her personality (who would have picked her to like electro?) and is generally just a wonderfully pulsating tune from Laura Les, one half of 100 Gecs.

Call Me Irresponsible – Bobby Darin (Episode 3)

While most of you probably don’t know who Bobby Darin is, he was a popular crooner in the '60s and '70s who had several big hits, including Call Me Irresponsible. The song fits perfectly during the scene in episode three where Rue dances about the house without a care in the world before being caught by her sister Gia who asks her if she is high. With a shrug of her shoulders and a knowing look, Rue tells us everything we need to know about her current sobriety.

    I’m Tired – Labrinth (Episode 4)

An original Labrinth composition takes centre stage as Rue takes more drugs and hallucinates about her own death. Walking down the aisle of a church, she sees friends Jules and Elliot sitting in the pews as Labrinth, dressed like a pastor, foreshadows her impending death. It’s a heartbreaking moment as Zendaya’s Rue and Labrinth embrace, and you realise if she doesn’t get help soon, she won’t live much longer. The song also appears during the end credits of the finale, this time sung solo by Zendaya. It’s magic.

Yeh I Fuckin’ Did It – Labrinth (episode 5)

Another Labrinth winner, Yeh I Fuckin’ Did It accompanies Rue while she’s running from the cops. This is one of the best shot scenes of the season, with Labrinth’s manic synth production the perfect soundtrack to the greatest foot chases since Keanu Reeves' frantic pursuit of Patrick Swayze in Point Break

I’ll Be There for You/You’re All I Need To Get By - Method Man & Mary J. Blige (Episode 6)

More classic hip-hop in the form of Method Man and Mary J. Blige’s I’ll Be There for You/You’re All I Need To Get By. While it only plays briefly as Nate drinks beer while driving to see Jules, the old school '90s beat adds a touch of danger to the scene, which makes sense when you think how batshit crazy Nate is. And the fact that he’s armed with a gun, which can only mean trouble.

Stand By Me – B.B. King (Episode 6)

This is the moment Flexi became a thing. After chatting about the play, Fezco and Lexi discover a shared love of the film Stand By Me and decide to watch it together. As the credits for the film roll and the two are crying and singing along, Fezco reaches out and holds Lexi’s hands, with the two sharing an intimate and innocent moment amongst a series full of chaotic and violent episodes.

Holding Out For A Hero – Bonnie Tyler (Episode 7)

The climax of Lexi’s play's first act features a hilarious dance number soundtracked to Bonnie Tyler’s massive '80s hit. Ethan’s homoerotic portrayal of Nate working out at the gym with his bros involves lots of thrusting and phantom ejaculation. This causes Nate to storm out of the performance angry and humiliated. On his way out he breaks up with Cassie, setting the scene for the gripping final episode.

Can’t Get You Out of My Head – Kylie Minogue (Episode 8)

It’s been over 20 years since our Kylie went disco and took over the charts with Can’t Get You Out of My Mind. The chart topper is playing as Nate confronts Cal while he’s hiding out in one of his warehouses and enjoying his newfound sexual freedom. It fits the scene well as Nate really can’t seem to get his dad out of his mind, not that you can blame him when you consider what he's been through.
