Finger Lickin' Albums

So a promo copy of the upcoming Breakbot album landed on my desk recently at exactly 3pm, almost as if it were fate that had hand delivered this pleasant surprise to me personally at such an hour of the afternoon. For it is widely known, that at this time of day in offices all around the world, munchies set in for a vast number of faithful working folk.

I say a pleasant surprise not only because upon 3 repeated listens, the album really is incredibly good, but also for the fact it presents itself disguised as a chocolate bar, half opened, foil torn back revealing chocolate Jesus in thigh-high shorts and tucked in white tee. Oh wait, that’s Breakbot.

The only disappointment I have with the album is that it’s not edible. Or should I say enjoyably digestible. But it did however manage to create quite a distraction.  Deadlines, contracts, phone calls all left waiting whilst I started to ponder on other albums that I would enjoy eating and on further research, have discovered there have been clear food trends throughout the ages, immortalized on album covers covered in mold at the back of your fridge, or at least at the back of CD & Vinyl racks in record stores near you. And whilst we have current trendsetters like Breakbot clearly representing the Now (with this of course being the Chinese year of the chocolate bar), I thought it was worth highlighting some of yester-years most mouth-watering musical moments.

It appears the clear winner in food features on album covers is the trusty hot dog, with it gracing the cover of many a fine album. Be it solo, front and centre in all it’s semi-mauled glory, or served with a cocktail umbrella in a daiquiri glass then heated by means of an eye-taser from behind, or just simply rolling around in a sea of them with your mates, like we’ve all done.

And for a sound recording side dish, why not try a serve of good old vegies. Or even better, eat them off your drum kit. Or better still… just lounge around with them with your mates, like we’ve all done. But whatever you do, don’t point them at your donkey.

As I delved deeper into thought about what album I might eat for dinner tonight, I realized that in fact there’s an album to eat for every meal of the day!

Never one to skip a good hearty breakfast…

And who wouldn’t want to hoe down on this for lunch…wait. WHAT IS THAT?!!

And Battles have clearly covered off dessert

And I’m not alone in my salivating over CDs. I came across a whole Tumblr album dedicated to  placing Tacos onto inconic album covers.

And no, Breakbot is not the first to dabble in delicious designs of chocolate. The true pioneer in the field is surely Big Daddy Kane and the “You know you want to taste me” look on his face. Bon Appéti
