G Flip seems like one of those gals that could talk your ear off for hours with her wild stories. From drumming, singing and producing to working with Illy and more, the young Aussie legend has seen some shit in her few years in the industry and best of all, we got her to dish some of her best dirt off the back of playing the Red Bull Music Motel livestream gig, alongside Baker Boy and Tkay Maidza, this month.
As written by G Flip, here are her five wildest music stories...
#1. Probably having Thanksgiving with one of the boys from One Direction. It was November 2018, I started the year as a nobody just making tunes in my room, then shit blew up and I was in LA for Thanksgiving and a car picked me and my mate up, and suddenly I was in the 1D boys mansion and the seven of us shared a turkey. Me and the said 1D boy bonded over our mile high club stories HAHAHA.
#2. My very first G Flip show ever something went terribly wrong. It was in Texas at SXSW in front of about 500 people. I was nervous as hell and we had a 15 minute changeover time after the LEGEND Mallrat played n slayed. I sat down at my drumkit, checked my mic and realised that my mic was coming through the speakers but not my in ear monitors, which means I cannot hear my own voice at all. It couldn't be fixed in time and suddenly we were announced and playing. I had to just fake it and everyone thought it was so cool that I was leaning on the speakers either side of the stage (I was just trying to hear myself). Fake it 'til you make it!
#3. I have a Crocs collaboration after 3 years of DM'ing them to love. Enough said.
#4. The boys from Peking Duk let me jump on their stage to do really shit cartwheels. It started in September 2019 when we played a show in Perth together. I was naughty and crashed their stage and Reuben witnessed me pull off the shittest cartwheel he had ever seen. Before COVID hit and shows were still kickin' they FaceTimed me 30 mins before their set to come down and do a shit cartwheel, I dropped everything. I will forever drop everything for this.
#5. I'm a massive HAIM fan. I wanted to be front row at Laneway 2014. I drank heaps of beers and water before I pushed myself to the front, I couldn't get out to go to the toilet and I didn't wanna lose my spot so I pissed my pants twice.
