One thing you can be sure of is that the Internet never, ever forgets. People have just dug up a 2009 article about Grimes and her attempts to live on a houseboat while sailing across the US, and it's a wild ride.
Back before she was dating Elon Musk, Grimes (aka Claire Boucher) attempted to sail down the Mississippi River to New Orleans with her then-boyfriend, William Gratz.
Unfortunately, it didn't quite go to plan. The pair had built a houseboat just for the occasion, and even come up with names for the trip, Veruschka and Zelda Xox.
The trip was inspired by a desire to go on an adventure. Grimes said, "I always wanted to live on a boat. We both wanted to go south and live on it when we got to New Orleans."
They packed "chickens, a sewing machine and 20 pounds of potatoes" into the houseboat, but the houseboat often fell apart, and the "Velvet Glove Cast in Iron" ended up in the Minneapolis impound lot due to issues with the Minneapolis park police.
The trip turned into a disaster, with police offer Rob Mooney telling the Star Tribune that they clearly weren't prepared for the realities of houseboat living.
Rob said, "I personally allowed them for a couple of weeks to try to solve the problem on their own. It was clear that they couldn't get it done."
