HAIM are making a splash in the world of film and TV. They recently wrote the track Feel The Thunder for the DreamWorks film The Croods: A New Age, and they're now set to soundtrack a musical.
A report by Deadline has revealed that Netflix have called in HAIM to score their new animated musical The Witch Boy, based on Molly Knox Ostertag's graphic novel series of the same name. It'll be directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Minkyu Lee.
The script, written by Maria Melnik, is set to focus on a secret, magical place, where girls become witches and boys become shapeshifters. The protagonist, Aster, is surprised when he turns out to have the powers of a witch. When danger strikes, he needs to learn about himself, his powers, and the magic that surrounds him and his world.
Speaking about working on the musical, Minkyu says it's a dream come true. “It has been a life-long dream of mine to create an animated film that pushes the medium forward, both in content and form. The connection between this dream, my experiences, and Aster and Juniper’s story is what draws me to this film every day.
"I am grateful to be creating this with the wonderful team at Netflix. My hope is that this film, by celebrating queerness and “otherness”, will come to audiences around the world as something truly special.”
