We've been waiting for years now for Paramore to call off their hiatus and come back into our lives with new music. That hasn't happened, but the next best thing has - after months of teasing, singer Hayley Williams has dropped the first taste of her upcoming solo project, Simmer.
The song is a brooding, understated and dark song, with barely-there instrumentation and a massive focus on Hayley's powerful vocals and a killer bassline.
"I’m so ready and so incredibly humbled to get to share this project,” says Williams. “Making it was a scary, empowering experience. Some of my proudest moments as a lyricist happened while writing PETALS FOR ARMOR. And I was able to get my hands a little dirtier than usual when it came to instrumentation. I’m in a band with my favorite musicians so I never really feel the need to step into a role as a player when it comes to Paramore records.
"This project, however, benefited from a little bit of musical naveté and rawness and so I experimented quite a bit more. I made this with some of the closest people to me. Their respective talents really shine bright throughout the record. I like to think we all make each other better and the result is something that sounds and FEELS exactly as I’d hoped it would. Now that it’s time to put it all out there, I can finally exhale. I’m excited to let people in to experience a different side of myself that I’ve only very recently become familiar with.”
The song has also arrived with an equally unsettling video of Hayley running naked through the forest, stumbling upon fiery corners and skeletons. It's got major Us vibes and we're into it, but it's super different to the Technicolor '80s feast we received with Paramore's last record, After Laughter.
The song has been released under the name Hayley Williams, finally revealing Petals For Armor to be the album name, out on May 8th.
For right now, revel in Hayley being back in our lives with what sounds like a super exciting new chapter.
