Vince Staples' Big Fish Theory is being hailed as one of the best rap releases of the year but many are pointing out that it's shorter than most hip-hop records.
This year, Drake has released a 22 song record, Lil Yachty dropped a 21 song effort and 2 Chainz recently gave us 16 new songs. By comparison, Staples' Big Fish Theory only has 12 songs and much fewer words than other hip-hop releases as one Facebook commenter pointed out.
They did the hard yards and counted all the words on Staples' newie, Kendrick Lamar's DAMN. and Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP 2.
Em's effort comes out on top with a whopping 11 721 words, Kendrick's is next with 5,779 words and Staples' is trailing behind with 2,175 words.
That's an exceptionally small amount of words for a predominantly rap record but in the cast of Staples it's quality over quantity.
The Facebook commenter was using the example to critique the rapper for being lazy but rather than lazy we reckon it's smart. Big Fish Theory is concise and cohesive and maybe that's why it's so good.
