If you’ve been tuned in to triple j recently you’ve no doubt heard the infectious electro-pop tune by Clubfeet Heartbreak which features Melbourne chanteuse Chela on the guest vocals.
No stranger to cameos, Chela kicked things off earlier this year when she helped out Californian producer Goldroom on the dreamy pop number Fifteen but now she’s ditching the ‘featuring’ prefix and focusing on her own business.
She’s just dropped her new single Full Moon and we can’t get enough! We loved it based on the audio alone but couple that with the cool as *$#! DIY video which sees Chela throwing shapes and dancing her way around Melbourne and you’ve got yourself one of the year’s best local independent releases.
Taking inspiration from the video above we managed to catchup with Chela and asked her to give us her top 5 fave dance music videos. Check out her killer selections below!
1. Pointer Sisters - Dare Me
This song one of my all-time-favourites! I feel the androgyny, improvisation and choreography in the video speaks my body-language. I vividly remember the first time I saw this video - my best friend and I were bored, searching YouTube on my bedroom floor and became obsessed after discovering it. Now every time it blares whilst we cruise in my car, we do our very own choreography to it!
2. Radiohead - Lotus Flower
Oh man, I would love to party with Thom Yorke. I’m such a huge fan of improvisation and he knows how to lose himself so perfectly in the song. Legendary.
3. The Jacksons - Shake Your Body
How’s the set design and wardrobe?! It makes me feel like I’m taking a peek into a dream party on another planet. It always fills me with joy when the time comes for all the brothers dance in sync even with their instruments. If only bands did that nowadays.
4. Chairlift - Amanaemonesia
Caroline Polachek is a mega-babe. Her choreography is refreshingly inventive and exciting to watch. I especially love the little ass-wiggle! A splash of comedy value always 'reels’ me in, mind the pun.
5. Fatboy Slim - Weapon Of Choice
Whenever I’m in a hotel I feel like breaking out Christopher Walken style over all of the furniture and sliding down the shiny tiles. Usually it’s not an abandoned hotel, though I still manage to find a way..
