Mauritian-born, Western Sydney-based artist Jean. has released his new single, See Through, and it's a global collaboration. Teaming up with Alabama MC Clever for the track, See Through is an emotional track about no longer being connected to that person that can read you like a book.
Lyrics like "There’s something different about tonight/I hear the silence, these wolves are howling at me" are unmistakeable. Jean.'s laying it all on the line in See Through, and clearly, he's going through it. It's not hard to relate to sentiments like "you are my only weakness", because it's a situation that many people might be in at this very moment.
Talking about the meaning of See Through, Jean. explains, “I wrote this hook in a spurt of inspiration after hearing the guitars that opentilll8 sampled in the intro of the song,” Jean. reveals. “I personally tend to write based on what images come to mind when I hear an instrumental, and for this particular track I saw visuals of the moon, a forest, a storm and wolves in my head.
"The music reminded me of some kind of hunt, so I knew the lyrics had to match the epicness of the instrumental. For the video, I decided I wanted to put myself in the world that I had imagined when writing the hook and it turned out to be exactly how I imagined. Shoutout to Macsdona on the visuals, he killed it. “ The visuals build on the track's theme, featuring plenty of wolves and forestry.
Speaking about working with Clever, Jean. reveals, “My friend Yaz showed me Clever’s music a couple of months prior and I thought his tone and melodies were incredibly unique. Whilst over in America, I stayed with his manager however we never got a chance to meet each other. 12 months later we finally made contact after his manager showed him the track. He loved it and wanted to feature on it. He sent his verse and I wrote my verse after hearing his approach to the song. That’s how the song came about.”
