Josh Groban Is Cooler Than You Think

    POSTED

Having been flagged as one of the “3 biggest Josh Groban fans in the office”, I feel I need to explain why I love Josh Groban… and why I think you should too. It all started a couple of years ago when I was living in an overcrowded and under furnished house – having just moved my room into the veranda I was faced with a dilemma. What should I cover the glass doors with to avoid my fellow housemates having to look at my morning routine while eating their breakfast on the camping chairs that made up our living room? Crafty little me grabbed a few posters from work and thought to myself “self, this should do it”. And I know the suspense is killing you, but yes – one of them was a Josh poster. A day after my highly efficient nakedness hiding installation, my (male and hardcore Rock & Roll fan) housemate pointed at Josh and exclaimed “I love that guy”! *pause for effect* You? Love Josh Groban? Ok then.

Now I knew of the Groban, but had never really paid attention to his music - I was more Incubus and Alexisonfire than “Popera” to be honest - but after having looked at the “Never Mind The Buzzcocks” video my housemate insisted we watch, I discovered that… Josh. Groban. Is. HILARIOUS!! A long night of interview watching followed, and my mind was changed.

He’s not (only) the proper, mommy’s boy, perfect-boyfriend-your grandma-wants-you-to-have kinda guy – he’s incredibly witty and doesn’t mind a couple of jokes at his expense. Who doesn’t like that? It was pretty much instant love. Oh yes.

So then obviously I went back to his music… and you might not be the popera kind either, but who can listen to “February Song” or the world famous “You Raise Me Up” and not want to run in a field, arms outstretched, frolicking about while staring at the heavens? Come on, even you get those urges and you know it. Enchanting melodies, thundering orchestral arrangements, a flawless voice and inspirational lyrics: that is what his music is all about, and listening to it brings a smile to my face. A little cheesy? Sometimes, sure… But what’s wrong with that? Josh Gorban strives to lift us up, and he does.

Everyone raves about the likes of Michael Bublé – and don’t get me wrong, he’s great – but at the risk of sounding all Twilight Saga, I’m going to go with Team Josh
