Earlier this year, Sydney band Lime Cordiale linked up with film star Idris Elba during a Sydney show, and now they're releasing a mini-album together. The project, called Cordi Elba, is set to be released on January 14th next year, and while the concept sounds like a fever dream, it's very, very real.
Cordi Elba was recorded back in March, while Idris was in Sydney for the filming of Thor: Love And Thunder. The band found out Idris was a fan, which led to a meeting (and Idris appearing on stage with the pair to add a verse to their track Unnecessary Things).
Speaking about the project, Lime Cordiale's Oli Leimbach says, “We wrote everything together. We were all writing lyrics – it wasn’t our music or his music, it was smack bang down the middle with every lyric.”
Idris echoed their thoughts, saying, “I wanted to collaborate. We agreed about the vibe and the song was there. They were really open to ideas; it was an opportunity for me to write songs I normally wouldn’t write. Ultimately, this is a step into a new universe musically for me.”
The first single from the project, Apple Crumble, has arrived with a music video that's totally off-the-wall - it feels like a trip into an alternate dimension. The track features vocals from both artists, and it sounds like they were having one hell of a time in the studio.
