    Lizzo

Lizzo is swiftly becoming a household name for her plethora of funky, body-positive, celebratory tunes and while she may seem like an overnight success, the 30-year-old rapper/singer/flautist has actually been chipping away at her music career since she was a teen.

From being a member of an electro/soul duo called Lizzo & The Larva Ink, a rap group called The Chalice and a part of her high school marching band playing the flute (which she still manages to fit into her performances now), Lizzo's talent spans many facets and it seems it has all culminated to this - Lizzo as a solo powerhouse singer, positing the ethos of loving your body no matter what it looks like, loving your sexuality no matter what it is and celebrating your blackness in every way.

On April 19th, her third full-length Cuz I Love You drops, boasting hits already like Juice, Cuz I Love You and the bangin' Tempo, written with her biggest influence Missy Elliott.

Ahead of the release, we were lucky enough to sit Lizzo down for a hot minute between Coachella performances to pick her brain about her hobbies, the bands she'd love to collaborate with and what she'd tell her 15-year-old self if she could go back in time.

It's clear Lizzo's star is about to rise a whole lot in the next year and leave us with heaps more to ask her, so for now let's start with the simple stuff.

Firstly, do you have Australian tour plans?

NO, but I'd like some! Geez, I've been wanting to play Australia forever. Since like, my first mixtape.

What celebrity have you met that you were totally starstruck by?

    Missy Elliott.

What do you never leave the house without?

Umm... chapstick. I use this thing called paw paw! Isn't it Australian? I LOVE paw paw. I order it straight from Australia. It's perfect.

    Favourite thing in your closet?

My lacy thongs. Also my Batman underwear, they make my butt look really good.

What is an insecurity you have?

    [laughs maniacally] That's your answer.

What do you do on a day off at home?

Do interviews? [laughs] OH god, hours and hours.

Are you watching anything on Netflix you love?

    Queer Eye

Who is a rock band you would love to collaborate with?

Dead or alive? Queen or Radiohead.

What movie do you watch when you feel like you need a pick-me-up?

This one's hard, because I don't really watch movies. I don't watch anything anymore. I love That Thing You Do! You know that movie with Tom Hanks? It's so good. Any movie with Tom Hanks, but especially That Thing You Do.

Are you a good cook and what’s your signature dish?

I don't have time to cook but I CAN cook my ass off. My favourite dish - I can make anything - but I'm really good at making breakfast. Eggs, potatoes, omelette, French toast, pancakes.

You’re 30 now, what would you say to your 15-year-old self?

"You don't know shit yet, man. Stop acting like you do." And then I'd say to my 30-year-old self, "You don't know shit yet, man. Stop acting like you do." And then I'd say to my 60-year-old self, "You don't know shit yet, man. Stop acting like you do." And then I'd say to my 100-year-old self, "You don't know shit yet, man. Stop acting like you do." [laughs]

How would you describe Cuz I Love You to someone who couldn't hear it?

I would just like... I'm doing it right now. Put my fist on my forehead, and scrunch it up so my eyes get really wide, so my eyelid is stretched up. And then I'd go "PSSHHH!" and make an explosion with my hands and turn it into a starfish and put it into the sky.

Do you keep all your photos on your phone or delete them periodically?

I delete them periodically, yes, I'm a Virgo moon. I'm a weird neat freak.

Are you a cat person or a dog person?

Ohhh shit. That is a good one. Well, I LOVE dogs. I'm gonna say dogs. They remind me of men. [laughs]
