If you haven't come across Maisie Peters yet, here's a short primer. The British musician gained popularity on YouTube before crossing over to pop stardom. She was signed by Ed Sheeran and after a slew of excellent releases, she dropped her debut album You Signed Up For This last year.
She's currently on a world tour with Sheeran, who co-wrote a number of the songs on the album, and while on tour she's been enjoying some serious TikTok success. The reason for it is a song called Cate's Brother which the world has watched come together on TikTok since the end of February this year.
It all started when Peters took to Twitter to write, "guys shall I do something deeply insane yes or no," before directing everyone to her TikTok where she had done the insane thing. Her TikTok featured a clip of a song that she had written about falling in love with her best friend's brother which neither he friend nor her brother had heard. The clip of the song garnered almost half a million views which started a long-winding journey towards the song being released in full.

The next clip reached almost 1 million views with Peters finally playing her friend the song. Her friend was only privy to the verse which recounts Peters meeting the brother at a Halloween party that Cate was also at and while it looks like she thinks the song is a bop, you can tell she's intrigued as to what happened next. As was the rest of the internet...
Peters had only finished the first verse but while on tour with Sheeran she set about finishing the whole song which was, of course, documented across TikTok. She gave an update a few weeks later to say that she's still trying to finish the song and the situation with the brother was "complicated with a capital C," however, she proceeded.
"The cate’s brother chorus is so good and i’m literally about to leak it and u aren’t even ready," she wrote on Twitter.
After a month of teasing the song, she finally gave us the chorus which sees her doubting whether the relationship was going to work. Once again, it racked up nearly a million views and had people asking for the next chapter in the Peters and Cate's brother love story.

By this stage she was already playing it at live shows with crowds screaming to the chorus of a song that they had only heard 45 seconds of. She then unleashed the official audio for TikTok which has already had close to 2,500 videos made with it. May we remind you, at this stage, we still hadn't heard the second verse of the song.
In the middle of April, she finally announced that the song was being released and we would get to hear the rest of the Cate's Brother love story. Earlier this week, she revealed the second verse of the song and we got to learn a little more about him. He's 6'2" and a little younger than Peters and can shot gun a beer too, apparently. She left us hanging with the narrative though bringing us to the point where the pair go on a date and pull up to the front door together.
Checking back in on Cate, she tells everyone that they need to pre-save the song and also reveals that her brother has pre-saved the song which is essential information.
Thankfully, the song dropped in full today and we finally get to hear the rest of the story. Don't read on if you don't like spoilers BUT Cate's brother invited her to Canada to meet his mother and also said that she's "his only girl." They are dating which is the ending we all wanted. Whether or not he's changed his mind since hearing the song is yet to be known.
