If you grew up in the late '90s or early 2000s then your life was probably consumed by the punchy and extremely singable songs of blink-182 and All Time Low respectively. Now the frontmen of both bands, Mark Hoppus and Alex Gaskarth, have teamed up to create a new project called Simple Creatures and basically, hook it to our veins.
Announced in the early hours of this morning, the pair dropped their first single Drug with a cute animated visual and it's insanely catchy.
Speaking to Kerrang!, Mark says, "Drug is always the first song we play people when introducing them to Simple Creatures, so it only makes sense that it’s the first single. I love the ratty guitar lead mixed with the thumping kick drum. Lyrically, the song is about being destroyed by the things you love.”
Alex adds, “Drug is a song about someone or something you want the most, being terrible for you… Feels great until it doesn’t, but then you can’t stop. In the studio it felt immediately like it was the song that best defined Simple Creatures; it’s gritty, grimy, rooted in the musicality we both came up on, but with a twist that takes it away from anything we’ve worked on before.”
All Time Low recently announced they'd be taking a bit of a break from the touring life, having toured non-stop for the last few years and last few records. blink-182 on the other hand are still riding high off the release of their last record (and first without Tom Delonge) California.
Mark spends a lot of time producing and writing with others too - we even saw him collaborate with our very own Amy Shark on her song Psycho.
Simple Creatures have announced there's an EP coming our way this March too - stoked!
