We love that Ellen Degeneres makes dreams come true for so many of the internet's viral memes. First, she sent young yodeler Mason Ramsey to perform at the Grand Ole Opry and now she's surprised the star of that viral Work It video, Mary Halsey, with a visit from Missy Elliott herself.
The viral video got Missy Elliott's attention last month, with Mary taking to a park (?) to perform the entirety of Work It - reversed lyrics and all.
Calling the woman her "funky white sister", Missy said she loved it. It was just a golden piece of viral content, made better by the horn Mary's holding and even the lady in the background tentatively eating a plate of food. Too good.
I just found out I have a FUNKY WHITE SISTER forreal doe& she brought her home girl with her from da hood that keep tip toeing in the background with a plate of food yo I’m done! but she straight killed “Work It” sound effects & all I love it pic.twitter.com/Rg9TTHAqu2

Ellen invited Mary onto her show to perform the song for the studio again, and lo and behold... Missy Elliott was there to join her. Kristen Bell coming to that realisation in the front row is a sight to behold in itself.
Check out the video below - the performance starts from 2:38.
I want to thank Ellen @theellenshow for just being AMAZING May God Bless you because of your HUGE heart & you have always used your platform to make ppl smile like Mary Halsey who is 1 of the sweetest ppl I’ve met! thank you Ellen Mary u are a gem!”My Funky White Sister” pic.twitter.com/HtOWTudVVr

And a fun fact from Missy: the famously difficult to sing backwards lyric on Work It was actually a mistake in the studio!
2day Sept 9 2002 “Work It” dropped had some crazy visuals in this videopeople always ask about the backwards part well fun fact it was a mistake that happened in the studio. I was recording & the tape skipped backwards & but when I heard it backwards I kept it like that pic.twitter.com/COphtHz4we
