Fans of 21 Savage and Metro Boomin received a huge surprise when they started listening to their new collaborative album, Savage Mode II.
Morgan Freeman voiced the announcement of the album, but that wasn't his only involvement. He's the first voice that features on the project.
Speaking to GQ, Morgan explained that when he got the offer, he was all in. It was something different, so he wanted to do it and throw a curveball at people.
Morgan says, “What happens is you sort of get locked into a position. Henry Fonda was in it, Spencer Tracy was in it, James Stewart was in it, even though he played a couple of bad guys.
"You don't really don't want to be cast into a mold, but after a few years, it's bound to happen. Every [offer] that’s outside of what you consider [your] mold is fun to do. I got to jump at it.”
He also had a lot of praise for 21 Savage. The seven monologues from Morgan that feature on the album were written by the rapper, and there was no improvisation involved.
There's a particular interlude on the album that talks about the differences between snitches and rats. It's a popular conversation in hip-hop at the moment, and Morgan thought itwas important. “I read the copy and was like wow, there's some wisdom in here. I think this is the way I think.
"It's basically saying don't suffer fools and when you want something go for that,” he says, adding “If [Savage’s music] is a young people thing, then this is stuff they need to be aware of. So it's a good thing to do.”

Honestly, if we received a compliment like this from Morgan Freeman, we'd never stop telling everyone. We can only assume 21 Savage feels the same way.
