Bare Hands, the new single from Brisbane three-piece The Strums has gone and got itself a gruff new video courtesy of the unexpectedly multi-talented Eden Mullholland who, it turns out, makes good tunes and also directs good films. It’s shot in a fairly derelict sharehouse with the simple addition of a carton of Fat Yak and a smoke machine and the outcome is bloody strong given the limited resources.
The song marks a turning point for The Strums and sees them head toward a more energetic but slightly darker direction than past records. They worked on this one with Alex Markwell (The Delta Riggs) and the quality shines through on a track that feels something like a gentler imagining of fellow Brisbanites Violent Soho. The rougher edges have been smoothed out but the unbridled energy remains. They’re back in after a string of tours with artists like The Hard Aches and the The Snowdroppers and if Bare Hands is anything to go by there are big things ahead.
They’re currently touring the tune up and down the East Coast as per the dates below and you’d be an absolute plum to miss it.
