One To Watch - Vic Mensa

I don’t mean to alarm anyone but have you actually looked at the date recently? Shiiiiiit… Can you believe that 2013 is almost done and dusted?!

I recently had a mild freakout based on that fact and thought I’d better start preparing for the inevitable requests for my ‘end of year/best of’ lists so I fired up the ol’ iTunes to find out the tracks I’ve spun the most over the past 10 months…

A couple of albums in their entirety rank pretty high which is nice, those being Portugal. The Man’s Evil Friends & Toro Y Moi’s Anything In Return and more recently both King Krule & rxn’s efforts have been getting some solid rotation.

But to my surprise at the top of the list by a country mile are two tracks, Hollywood LA & Orange Soda both by 19 year old Chicago emcee Vic Mensa. I really shouldn’t be surprised tho, when I think about it I’ve spent more than a few train rides/wanders to work with one or both of those jams on loop.

They have both been floating around the internet for a while now but recently they became part of Vic’s latest release INNANETAPE.

If you like yourself a bit of soulful rap business, dig Chance The Rapper (who Vic is down with) or if you’re a fan of Frank Ocean I would highly recommended giving him a go, and better yet you’ve actually got nothing to lose as you can cop his INNANETAPE for free, ziltch, zero, nada. Bargain.

Hit play on the tracks below and then make some space in your best of 2013 lists.
