Sydney pop trio PEPTALK are gearing up to release their self-produced debut single, White Sneakers, and you'll relate to this one if you're ever had a crush so big that it got in the way of the rest of your life. Made up of keyboardist Jay-Lee Kwan, bass guitarist Lara Frew and lead singer Phoebe Sinclair, the band wants to be the representation they wish they had growing up, as they're all-female, two-thirds queer and two-thirds POC.
White Sneakers is a breezy, upbeat tune that channels the trio's accomplished songwriting into a track that'll get stuck in your head. They've previously written for artists and producers in Australia, the US, Canada, South Korea, France, New Zealand and the UK, and White Sneakers is a great introduction to the band's nuanced take on modern pop. We're excited to be premiering the track right now!
Speaking about the track, they explain, “White Sneakers is about being completely infatuated with someone. When we were writing the track, Phoebe mentioned a real-life experience where she was complimented on her fresh sneakers and they instantly became her most prized possession.
"We could all relate to that feeling of wanting to impress someone and holding onto compliments a little too hard.” If you've ever found yourself in a dynamic where you were trying your best to win someone's affection, then White Sneakers will remind you that you're not alone (as well as bring up memories from that time).
