This year has seen Toto's Africa cop some renewed interest on the internet - the memes have been coming strong, Weezer did a killer cover of the track with Toto returning the favour, and Toto are even arriving on Aussie shores soon for Falls Festival.
Now Pitbull's jumped on the bandwagon, covering the track (kinda) for the Aquaman film soundtrack. It is... interesting.
Mr Worldwide's all but ditched most of the song, only leaving Africa's killer chorus for featured artist Rhea to sing. The familiar synthy chords of Africa still run through the song but it's definitely been given a 2018 renovation.
Dunno about you, but we definitely still prefer the OG version.
there’s a real Aquaman movie and a fake one starring Vinnie Chase in Entourage and somehow the real one is the one with a song where Pitbull samples Africa by Toto

Oh my God that Pitbull song from #Aquaman is ASS. The Skylar Grey song is cool but my GOD THAT AQUAMAN SONG IS JUST WRONG. To anyone that's seen the film: does it play in the film? pic.twitter.com/M7uJBDyjEr

Pitbull’s cover of Africa is an end-of-year-list-destroying masterpiece. Total bare minimum, no prechorus, no postchorus, no middle eight, just VERSE CHORUS VERSE CHORUS VERSE CHORUS CHORUS THERE THAT’S TWO AND A HALF MINUTES INVOICE ATTACHED https://t.co/HmC5mImOoK
