Sydney queer dark pop artist JËVA is set to release his new single, Shady, and it's a track about wanting revenge after being (metaphorically) stabbed in the back.
The song recalls what happened after JËVA confessed his love for a friend, and it's a track that's full of adrenaline-inducing energy. We're pumped to be premiering the track right now!
Shady captures the emotions that run through us when we've been betrayed - from shock, sadness, surprise and anger. It's an emotional journey, right up until the last chorus, where JËVA decides to get even.
Speaking about the track, JËVA says, “It was my first time confessing to someone. I had come out to less than five people at the time, so I asked him to keep it a secret. A few weeks later I discovered that he had told all our mutual friends and mocked me in private chats.
"It was one of the most jarring experiences of my life. To have someone you trust and adore to simply turn against you and throw a dagger in your back, I just didn’t understand why. I still don’t to this day.”
The track is the 4th single off his upcoming Typhoon EP, which tells the story of a decade-long friendship falling apart. It captures his coming out story, and Shady forms a key part of the narrative. The EP is set to be an insight into JËVA's world, with his diary-like lyrics painting a story that is both deeply personal, as well as relatable.
