Rising Sydney producer Oh Boy has dropped an atmospheric new video for his latest single, By The Wa777, today, premiering on Cool Accidents.
The song is a woozy, playful mix between SoundCloud rap and indietronica, short and sweet and taking us into another world with its understated music video.
It's filmed in the Californian desert but pretty much looks like it could be Mars for the clip's two astronauts. With foreign film-esque yellow subtitles and camera work that dips in and out of focus, it builds an intimacy with the two men as they explore the new terrain.
Oh Boy says on the video, "By The Wa777 ideally is about being in the moment (not physically) with your partner and everything being happy and dandy, while also having to finish the interaction by saying something that could tear everything down and potentially end the relationship. We wanted the term ‘by the way’ to carry a lot of weight to it in this way, and that’s basically how the song came together.
"The video was filmed while I was in Los Angeles. Having that concept in the back our minds and a random trip into the middle of the desert in the next coming days made the situation pretty ideal. LOVER (Oliver Kirby) and I decided we could shoot the video in the desert and pretend it’s another planet and use the concept to convey the idea of space travellers being stuck on a foreign planet and the protagonist having to explain to their partner that they won’t be coming back home.
"We bought the astronaut costumes from a Hollywood costume shop. It was Thanksgiving the day we left. A group of us drove about 5 hours out of the Brentwood Heights area to the desert, and let me tell you... It definitely was another planet out there. I hadn’t seen nature like that before, it felt alien."
Oh Boy's just days away from dropping his Brentwood Heights EP, six tracks which enlist help from the likes of Golden Vessel, Cub Sport and Cult Shtta.
