Canberra-based rapper Citizen Kay just dropped his latest single, Don't Blink, and we're pumped to be premiering the music video for the track.
The video features Kay on his own, getting more and more frantic. As he gets more and more into the song, he starts to lose it. The world is spinning around him, but he's immersed in the music.
Kay didn't just rap on Don't Blink, but he produced the track as well. It's full of bass riffs to get you moving, as well as police sirens that will have you checking what's going on outside.
The video was directed by Kay's long-time collaborator Nic Vevers, and features some truly eye-opening graphics by Trent Dwyer placed on top of the footage of Kay. You'll want to have both eyes on the screen at all times when watching this video.
Speaking about working with Nic on the video for Don't Blink, Kay says, “After working with Nic for so long, I've come to really trust him and am hella confident of his work. We had this dope idea of a one-shot, slow panning, cinematic, minimalistic video which basically went right out the window.
"Instead we ended up making this mostly spontaneous clip that you see which reflects the song so damn well! The animation represents subliminal internal thoughts which oppose a lot of the aggression throughout the track and the visuals and a gritty style just came out so naturally when shooting.”
The video is a great addition to the track, because the style complements Kay's bars. It adds to the depth of the track, rather than merely being a visual reproduction of the song's energy and message.
