Iraq-born, New Zealand-based artist WHO SHOT SCOTT (aka Zaidoon Nasir) has experienced a lot of heartbreak throughout his life, which he's channelled into his music.
Having fled Iraq at an early age to settle in Russia, he and his mother finally found a home in New Zealand. WHO SHOT SCOTT came about after the abrupt ending of a friendship that lasted over a decade, with Zaidoon's best friend leaving New Zealand without so much as a goodbye.
From the ashes of a friendship that evaporated overnight came a fiery desire to create music, and it's resulted in tracks like REALLY LIKE THAT. We're super excited to be premiering it right now, alongside the Connor Pritchard-directed music video that accompanies it.
The track is built around Zaidoon's swaggering flow, with the chaos of the beat driving the song forward. It's hard not to get swept up in the energy of the track, with REALLY LIKE THAT sounding like it's progressing at a mile a minute. Zaidoon is utterly charismatic, which adds to the song's flavour.
Speaking about the track, Zaidoon says, “I have a few creative philosophies that I stick by - mainly making sure that all the production and songwriting I do is extremely true to my inner soul and that I am always courageous.
"I had such a great reaction to my debut EP, MERCY, that I now feel a wave of unbelievable confidence in my skills and liberation in the fact that I can be an artist who aims to push sonic boundaries and is always evolving creatively. My new single REALLY LIKE THAT is about this newfound faith and I am so excited to share it.”
