Hip-hop music comes faster than any other genre. It's not uncommon for a rapper to drop upwards of three projects a year and while that's great, it becomes increasingly hard to stay on top of it. 'The Rap Wrap' is our attempt to keep you in the know on the weekly. This week, we're giving you new tunes from Future and Lil Skies plus plenty of new cuts by British MCs.
Lil Skies - Real Ties
20 year-old rapper Lil Skies is going to have a big year and Real Ties is his first track of 2019. It's a strong start too, boasting one of his strongest hooks yet and an impressive feel for melody.
James Blake - Mile High (Feat. Travis Scott & Metro Boomin)
James Blake and Travis Scott are back together for the second time in less than a year and it's another hot strike for them. Mile High is even woozier than Stop Trying To Be God, and it's good to hear both Scott and Metro take it easier.
AJ Tracey - Psych Out!
British MC AJ Tracey is going to be one of the biggest acts coming out of the UK this year and Psych Out! is a clever drop. It sees him detour from grime into something more global and he nails it. World domination incoming.
Little Simz - Selfish (Feat. Cleo Sol)
It's a big week for British MCs evidently. Little Simz is gearing up to drop her third album and Selfish is one of the most mature cuts she's ever dropped. It's a soulful, funk-infused sizzler that sees Simz lay back in the beat.
Loyal Carner - You Don't Know
Loyal Carner is back with his first cut of the year and it sees him laying down bars over a soulful, vintage beat that Amy Winehouse would've had a field day with.
Future - Krazy But True
Future's new album The WZRD is out today and while the whole thing is fire we're particularly digging Krazy But True. It's peak Future. Melodic but hard, sparse but textured and emotional but detached.
