Reddit, source of ongoing unresolved debate, has opened the floodgates once again, this time asking what the best "stretch" of songs on an album is.
If you're not following, a "stretch" is basically three or more consecutive songs on album that work in unison and are all complete and utter perfection.
It doesn't mean that it's a perfect album, it just means that at one point it reaches a period of euphoria that's eventually broken by a lesser song.
There are plenty of good suggestions being thrown up. The run of Norman Fucking Rockwell, Mariners Apartment Complex and Venice Bitch on Lana Del Rey's NFR is a popular one as is any point on Dua Lipa's Future Nostalgia.
If we have to pick a side though, we're going with the opening four tracks of Beyoncé's Lemonade. Opening with the devastating Pray You Catch Me she moves into the ball-buster Hold On then onto the angsty Don't Hurt Yourself before finishing with the liberating Sorry. There's narrative, drama, tenderness, honesty, fury and so much more on these four perfect songs.
Let's be honest, the whole of Lemonade is a smash but in our humble opinion The Weeknd-featuring 6 Inch is the album's worst track, thus ending the four song streak.
If we're picking a "stretch" from this year, we're siding with Charli XCX's how I'm feeling now. c2.0 to closer Visions has it all hitting us with glitchy production, emotional lyrics and expansive rave moments. Those four tracks consume you and that's what we want from a perfect streak.
Anyway, that's our two cents but when you inevitably disagree you can sound off on the Reddit thread right here.
