We recently stumbled across a Reddit thread about "songs that respond to each other", and it's a fascinating read.
Posted by /u/2062373 in r/popheads, it's a thread that talks about songs that were written as replies to another song, and users discussing which song of the pair they prefer.
For example, Lady Gaga's Telephone and Beyoncé's Video Phone are linked. Gaga featured on the extended remix of Video Phone, and then asked Bey to return the favour by featuring on Telephone.
Speaking about Telephone to Ryan Seacrest, Gaga says she's a big fan of Bey. "We’re not competitive at all. We’re so different, you know, and we respect each other so much. She’s so kind. We get along. She was very courageous in this video.
"I mean, can you imagine me saying, ‘Okay, now, Beyoncé, now you have to call me a very bad girl and feed me a honey bun’?…She trusted me because she likes my work, and she trusted me because she knew that I love her and that it’s a mutual respect. It ended up being a masterpiece because she was so courageous.”
Elsewhere in the thread, users compare songs by Mariah Carey and Eminem, Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter and many more, and you'll find yourself debating which of the tracks you like most. We're still working out whose side we're on in each instance!
